Sun-safety is a must, especially in the blazing heat we’ve been having! When you’re out enjoying the weather, there are certain summer essentials you shouldn’t skip. And a sun hat is definitely one of them, unless you want to end up with a scalp that’s so burnt it’s FUBAR.

I’ve found a bunch of trendy hats to add to your summer wardrobe, and all of them are under £30. Take a look at some of the best hats for style, practicality and value for money!

checkCheck Sunhat, £22 from Cath Kidston

The wide rim of this Cath Kidston hat protects your face from the sun’s harmful rays. The cotton texture is not only light, it’s easy to take care of. The fun check pattern is light and breezy, perfect to match with fresh white linen and gladiator sandals.

militaryStone Buckle Military hat, £5.00* from Dorothy Perkins

Thanks to Cheryl Cole (or now Tweedy?), the military look is in this season. I love this hat because it provides similar protection to a baseball cap, but is a more chic look so you can wear it with more than just sweats. It’s available in Black, Stone and Green, so you can mix and match with every outfit.

sequinSequin Beret Beanie Hat, £10.50* from CX London

I love this cute fashion hat for it versatility. Paired here with a simple black tee it works for a day out shopping, but the sequins allow you to easily dress it up. I like the “Dazed and Confused” feel of this hat too – it works well for festival season.

cottonCotton Hat, £25.00* from Freemans

I like the old-fashioned look of this hat, and particularly in this colour. It sort of blends the best of vintage with a modern twist, a big trend this year. This is a great hat to take centre stage in an outfit for going out. The light cotton texture won’t let you overheat, which is a plus, too.

trilMiami Trilby, £12.50 from French Connection

The return of fedora and trilbies is no longer just for men. This flashy hat is really laid-back, perfect for pairing with a casual white tank and khaki shorts. The blue band gives you some wiggle-room for coloured accessories, too.

These are my picks of cute hats for women – and I’ll be investing in at least one. Considering I’m suffering from a burnt scalp at the time of writing, it’s hardly a bad idea!
